Patient Safety ... Five Hospitals, One Goal
Quality care is our goal at The Valley Health System. It guides
everything we do. That's why our hospitals participate in a
number of quality-based patient safety initiatives such as:
- The Joint Commission's "National Patient Safety Goals"
to provide a greater connection between patient safety and
quality-focused standards in our daily activities.
- The Institute for Healthcare Improvement's "5 Million Lives"
campaign, which encourages hospitals to prevent incidents of
medical harm.
- The National Quality Forum's "Safe Practices for Better
Healthcare," which works to develop and implement a national
strategy for healthcare quality measurement and reporting,
such as done by the Leapfrog Group.
- Partnering with HealthInsight, the Medicare Quality Improvement
Organization (QIO) dedicated to improving the healthcare
systems in Nevada and Utah, on special research projects.
- Following the American Heart Association/American Stroke
Association's "Get With the Guidelines" hospital-based
quality improvement program to improve cardiovascular and
stroke outcomes.
- Using Milliman Care Guidelines®, evidence-based medical
guidelines that support healthcare recommendations.
Since we began these quality initiatives, the hospitals of The
Valley Health System have received awards, accreditation and
recognition. But we don't do it for the awards and recognition.
We do it because it's the right thing to do.
