Why They Chose to Work
at The Valley Health System
VHS 2008 Employees of the Year
The Valley Health System would like to honor the following employees for going above and beyond in providing great care to our patients.
Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center
Peter Burghardt
Previously a transport technician, Peter Burghardt, now an Emergency Department technician, has received numerous nominations and kudos from his coworkers. Colleagues say that his cheerful and energetic demeanor and proactive nature go a long way toward making patients, and his fellow staff members, feel at ease. "I choose to work at Centennial Hills because of the cooperation and team spirit, which I see demonstrated every day by my coworkers," he says.
Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center
Cindy Hey
As a clinical supervisor on the Tower 4 medical-surgical unit, Cindy Hey received multiple nominations from patients and their families for her follow-through, listening skills and caring nature. "I chose to work at Desert Springs Hospital 19 years ago because I had a feeling it was going to be a great experience," Hey said. "And it truly has been just that!" One of her patients said that "no nurse anywhere has treated me like Cindy did. She is to be recognized and applauded for her exemplary example."
Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center
Brian Walters
Respiratory therapist Brian Walters shows compassion for others and support of his team, qualities that are just part of why he was recognized as Spring Valley Hospital's Employee of the Year. Walters supports the needs not just of his patients, but of their family members. He credits Spring Valley Hospital for his success. "I choose to work at Spring Valley because the wonderful work environment allows me to perform my job to the fullest -- and to the best of my abilities," Walters says.
Summerlin Hospital Medical Center
Garland Collins
Critical thinking skills, compassion and collaboration with patients and families helped make Garland Collins Employee of the Year. He takes time to sit and speak with families, educating them on the disease process and plan of treatment. Many patients personally return to thank him for his care. "I became a nurse believing that patients should have exceptional care and someone to speak for them when they can't speak for themselves," he says. "I choose Summerlin Hospital Medical Center because they allow and encourage me to be that nurse."
