Local Spotlight:
Employer Advantage Program

"Health and wellness programs are wonderful gifts that employers give their employees," said Donna McCarthur, Employer Advantage coordinator. "Providing facts, screenings, health fairs and other benefits helps employees improve their health. Plus, it makes them happier and more productive -- both on the job and at home."
Individual Programs to Suit Your Needs
Employers don't have to plan all their health and wellness activities on their own. The VHS Employer Advantage Program offers area businesses:- Seminars led by VHS medical professionals on heart health, fitness and other important topics
- On-site health information boards that VHS updates quarterly
- Flu shots
- Blood pressure and other requested screenings
- Help planning employer-sponsored health fairs
We Come to You
Since the Employer Advantage Program kicked off earlier this year, staff members have helped 64 local businesses -- like Zappos.com, an Internet retail company with about 680 employees in Las Vegas."Zappos.com employees constantly go above and beyond for our customers, and we like to do the same for our employees," said Michelle Simone, Benefits Analyst at Zappos.com.
Simone said that the company's health and wellness program is a seamless extension of the robust benefits it offers employees. The program's educational opportunities and on-site services aren't mandatory, but many employees voluntarily participate.
"We're excited about working with VHS staff," she said. "They provided free blood pressure checks at our 2009 wellness fair, and we've scheduled an on-site weight-loss class for the fall. The Employer Advantage Program is a great resource for companies that need help building a wellness program from scratch or want to fill in the gaps to enhance an existing one."
