Valley Hospital Medical Center recently added two new cardiac catheterization labs to its Cardiology Center of Excellence. "Cardiac caths produce pictures that show potential coronary artery blockages that could cause heart attacks or other cardiovascular damage," explains Diane Rybko, RN, Cardiology Manager.

One new lab will feature the Innova®2000, the world's first all-digital X-ray cardiovascular imaging system by GE Medical Systems. "Because the lab converts X-ray signals into digital images, cardiologists view blood vessels, stents and catheters with exceptional clarity. It also has less radiation exposure than conventional labs," says Rybko.

The second lab is a dual cardiovascular/peripheral angiography lab. Upon completing the cardiac cath procedure, physicians also could view arteries that supply blood to the head, neck, abdomen and legs, reducing the need to schedule a separate angiography procedure. Using the Advantx LCV+ and its exclusive 3D spin technology, physicians can now view arteries three-dimensionally from a variety of angles. Should additional surgery be necessary, the improved angles and clarity help pinpoint the best location in which to operate, decreasing surgery time and enhancing recuperation.
