A committee of hospital employees raised donations through a wide variety of events, including bake sales and a golf tournament. The two organizations benefiting from the donation, Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada and Special Children's Clinic, will use the funds to augment their programs and give back to the community.
"As an ovarian cancer survivor and founder of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada (OCAN), I want to express my deepest, sincerest gratitude for the donation of $10,000 we received from all of you. I started OCAN in 2000, just a few months after my diagnosis. Since then, our organization has educated thousands of Nevadans about ovarian cancer. Our hope is that we will prevent late-stage diagnosis by raising awareness of the symptoms, risk factors and facts about this disease. With the generous donation that you made to OCAN, we will double our efforts in 2003. Many thanks!"
"Special Children's Clinic is a diagnostic and treatment center for children birth to age 3 with known or suspected developmental delays. Many families who utilize our clinic have limited or no insurance to cover specialty physician visits, medical equipment, supplies and miscellaneous medical needs for their child. On behalf of the Special Children's Network and families served by the Las Vegas Special Children's Clinic, we would like to thank the staff of Summerlin Hospital for their generous donation to help these families."
