Diabetes has become such a major health threat that Valley Home Health nurses currently provide comprehensive diabetes education and self-care instructions to their homebound patients.

All home health nurses have undergone specialized training on diabetes education and management. They'll also participate in ongoing education programs to help ensure they can provide patients with the most up-to-date information available.

"We want to empower our patients so they can better manage their disease and help prevent or delay serious diabetes complications," says Larry Searles, RN, Valley Home Health Director.

To help patients maximize their health, home health nurses teach patients how to monitor their blood sugar levels, use medications effectively, and examine and care for their feet. They also educate patients about the importance of diet and exercise.

Valley Home Health provides a variety of services to Medicare and Medicaid-eligible patients who are recovering from a hospital visit, are disabled or chronically ill and require medical treatment or assistance with daily living activities. Services may include skilled nursing care; home health aide assistance; physical, speech and occupational therapy services; and medical social worker assistance. For more information, call 388-8420.

Check your blood pressure at the Meadows Mall at Valley Hospital Medical Center's Heart Check Center! Located near Sears on the first floor, the Heart Check Center also offers free blood pressure cards so you can track your statistics as often as you would like.
