3 Reasons to Choose the Children's Medical Center
at Summerlin Hospital
- Pediatric Emergency Room
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- General Pediatric Unit
1 -- Pediatric Emergency Room
It's not just the colorful spaceships and twinkling stars that attract families to the Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) at the Children's Medical Center. It's the quality care tailored to their children's needs.
The newly renovated Pediatric ER features eight spacious, private pediatric rooms with kid-sized equipment, beds and supplies, including defibrillators and blood pressure cuffs. These elements help doctors and nurses provide specialized care while making your child more comfortable.
The doctors in the Pediatric ER are certified as pediatric emergency physicians and specialize in easing the pain and anxiety that children's emergencies can cause families.
2 -- Pediatric ICU
Home to a highly trained team of pediatric intensive care specialists, the 12-room Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) offers advanced services that typically aren't found on a general pediatric floor. Those services include surgery, dialysis and respiratory therapy, among others.
"Having critically ill children hospitalized in the PICU is very stressful for families," said Jody Bardoun, BA, CCLS, a certified child-life specialist at the Children's Medical Center. "But when families can get this level of care close to home, they also receive support from family and friends that helps them cope more effectively with hospitalization. And when families are at ease, children heal faster."
3 -- General Pediatric Unit
This 17-bed unit becomes a temporary home for kids with a range of non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Staff members also take care of kids recovering from surgery or receiving oncology care and other specialty services.
"Families can feel very confident when they bring their children here," said Lynn Ray, RN, BSN, Interim Pediatric Director for the Children's Medical Center. "Our experienced staff members are available 24 hours a day to provide specialized care -- whether it is stitches, surgery or life support."
