Going to the Hospital?
Here's what you and your visitors need to know.

It's OK to ask about everything. Ask if people have washed their hands, what medication you are receiving and what will happen during your procedure.
Everyone should wash their hands -- frequently. Hand sanitizers or sinks are located in patient rooms and throughout the hospital. Your healthcare team washes their hands often. You and your visitors should do the same.
Sometimes a phone call is better. No matter how much you love company, it really is better for young children and under-the-weather visitors to call rather than visit. This protects both your immune system and theirs.
Pain control is important. Your nurse will regularly ask your pain level on a scale of one to 10. Let nurses know if your pain increases so they can contact your physician or administer additional medication.
Take time to read all the paperwork. From the patient handbook to the discharge instructions, the paperwork you receive will help you prepare for your hospital visit and offer valuable information for those involved with your procedure and recovery.
