| ![]() ![]() New Mall Play Area Offers Indoor Fun for Families This Winter
Inside the Healthy Living Play Area, kids can tunnel under a soccer ball, climb on a teddy bear and slide down celery. The 1,640-square-foot soft play area located in Macy's Court is equipped with toys and activities, including slides, climbers, tunnels and building blocks. Each activity is themed and specially designed to promote a specific healthy living practice. For example, a giant soccer ball with tunnels promotes exercise and a jungle gym of fruits and vegetables encourages good nutrition. "It is important that children have opportunities to play," says Susan Johnson, RN, Director of the Pediatric Program at Summerlin Hospital. "Playing gives children the building blocks they need for good physical and mental health by encouraging creativity and teaching kids problem-solving skills and self-control." Other activities in the play area focus on good health, family and friends, learning and the importance of rest and vacation. The Healthy Living Play Area is open during normal mall business hours. Children must be 42 inches tall or less to be admitted into the play area. Stroller parking, shoe cubbyholes and adult seating are available. "This is a great opportunity for Meadows Mall to offer a fun environment in which kids can play while they learn about important health matters," says Kristi Walkoski, Meadows Mall Marketing Manager. "We hope this play area will help instill healthy practices in children at an early age." "We're delighted to be part of this children's play experience," says Gretchen Papez, Marketing Director at Valley Hospital Medical Center. "Because the Meadows Mall is such a family-oriented shopping destination, it offers a wonderful amenity for children who need to burn some energy and adults who need to take a break."
